Position Title:  New York SkillsUSA Coordinator/National Liaison

Basic Function:           The SkillsUSA New York Skills Coordinator/National Liaison provides leadership and coordination in the operation of NYS SkillsUSA.  The coordinator is appointed by and responsible to the NYS SkillsUSA Board of Trustees.

Qualifications:            

  1. Present/Past member of SkillsUSA
  2. NYS certified teacher or administrator.
  3. Teacher/administrator whose experiences have been in areas of Occupational Education and Student Leadership (SkillsUSA).
  4. Familiar with and actively participated in NYS SkillsUSA activities.

Board Appointment:   Two year appointment with position posted during even year.

Start Date:                   January 1, 2011

Work Year:                 12 months

Stipend:                       Increased at the March 4, 2008 board meeting.

Position Title:  SkillsUSA – New York Skills Championship Facilities Manager

Basic Function:          The SkillsUSA New York Facilities Manager is appointed by the SkillsUSA New York Board of Trustees and provides assistance, support and facilities layout for the Spring Conference. This person is responsible to the Skills Championship Coordinator and provides  reports to both the Coordinator and Board President.

Responsibilities:         1. Collect all contest material lists by January 15th and make sure
                                        they are within budget.
                                    2. Complete all facility layouts by February 1st. This must include
                                        a list all decorators needs.
                                    3. Work with the decorator to provide the necessary tables, chairs,
                                         and draping within each contest budget guidelines.
                                    4. Be responsible for the storage of supplies and materials of
                                        contests within allocated budget amounts. Arrange for receiving
                                        any donations of space, supplies, or materials.
                                    5. Rent the necessary truck/lifts, within budget, for move in/out.
                                        Arrange for possible donations of these items.
                                    6. Supervise and help coordinate material and supply orders from
                                        cluster chairs.

Qualifications:              

  1. Present/Past member of SkillsUSA with the ability to use a computer and knowledge of how to use various programs.
  2. Person whose experiences have been in Career and Technical Education and Student Leadership (SkillsUSA)
  3. Familiar and actively participated in NYS SkillsUSA activities.

Work Year:                  12 months (most of the work during the Spring Conference)

Position Title:  SkillsUSA – NY Skills Championship Secretary/Prize Coordinator

Basic Function:           This person provides the support and clerical assistance for the Skills Championship Coordinator and the Spring Conference. He/she is responsible to the Skills Championship Coordinator and is appointed by the SkillsUSA New York Board of Trustees.
Responsibilities:            

  1. Prepares all packets for contests.
  2. Prepares results (on a data base that can be submitted to the Visual Technology Group for the Awards Ceremony) – must be completed the evening of the Skills Championship by 6 pm.
  3. Prepares the on line posting of the results of the Skills Championship the day following the Awards Ceremony.
  4. E-mails the Travel Agent the results of the Skills Championship the day of the Awards Ceremony.
  5. Prepares all tax forms per Board Policy to be distributed within one month of the state conference.
  6. Collects and distributes prizes at the Championship Awards Ceremony.

The Board of Trustees Area Administrator – Member

The six administrator trustees from ACTEA shall be elected by the ACTEA members in each of the six SkillsUSA areas.  They shall be elected at the first ACTEA Zone (ACTEA Zones and SkillsUSA areas are the same) meeting in the fall. Their term of office shall be for two years and shall be from July 1through the second June 30th (4-15-10) following their election.  Administrator Trustees for Areas 1, 3 and 5 shall be elected in odd numbered years, Administrator Trustees from Areas 2, 4 and 6 in even numbered years.

  1. The Area Administrative Trustee shall be elected by the local zone members of the Association of Career & Technical Education Administrators (ACTEA) to represent all vocational administrators within the area.  The Administrative Trustee must be working as a school administrator and hold administrative certification. (4-15-10.)

    1. Is responsible and accountable to all administrators within their represented areas.

    2. Is responsible as a member of the Board of Trustees for SkillsUSA policy decisions.

    3. Shall appoint and follow up on key Advisors to serve as chairpersons of various SkillsUSA activities such as contest, fundraising, coordination of Nationals and State SkillsUSA programs and other inter-area activities.

    4. Shall provide for means for election for SkillsUSA Area Advisor Trustee.

    5. Shall provide administrative support for area SkillsUSA functions such as area contests, leadership training and the formation of new clubs.

    6. Shall be responsible to report to the ACTEA zone chairperson.

    7. Shall be responsible to coordinate the “Host Area” responsibilities during a designated Fall Leadership Conference.

    8. Shall be responsible to assume State Conference Operational Committee duties.

  2. The Area Administrative Trustee networks with labor and Industry in their area.

         1.   Shall suggest Industry personal to assist NYSC and as possible members of the Industry Advisory Council.

The Board of Trustees Area Advisor – Member

The six area club advisors shall be elected by a majority vote of the local club advisors within their area at the first SkillsUSA area meeting in the fall of each school year.  Each club in the area, active during the preceding school year, shall have one vote in the election.  The local advisors elected in each area shall serve for two years beginning July 1 through the second June 30th.(4-15-10)  Trustees for Areas 2, 4, and 6 will be elected in odd numbered years, Area 1,3, and 5 in even numbered years.

  1. The Area Advisor Trustee is elected on the local level as the representative of all advisors within the area.

    1. Is responsible and accountable to all advisors within the represented area.

    2. Is responsible as a member of the Board of Trustees for SkillsUSA policy decisions.

    3. Is the liaison between the Board of Trustees and local advisors. (ex. Sends informational memos to local advisors, etc.)

    4. Assists the Area VP in strengthening existing clubs and establishing new SkillsUSA activates within the area.

    5. Is responsible for SkillsUSA activities within the area.

    6. Coordinates work activities with the area Administrative Trustee.

    7. Assumes State level responsibilities where and when necessary.

    8. Coordinates with the Area VP and Area Administrative Trustee the development of regional conference.

    9. Attends all meeting of the area VP and advisors.

    10. Assists Area Administrative Trustee in developing “people power” pool for use at area and state functions.

    11. Assumes chairperson responsibilities for area VP Screening Committee, conducts election of area VP and submits name of elected VP to State Director, State Coordinator and State Officer Manager on or before March 1st of each year.
