Area 2 SKILLS USA advisors meeting October 13, 2009 (12/1/09)

The meeting was called to order by Ross at 4:34 PM at the Madison Oneida BOCES.

The Minutes were read and corrected.

Ross introduced our new Area 2 administrator trustee, Ron Camp, from the Oswego BOCES.

Everyone introduced themselves.

Nanette was appointed as the Secretary.

Ray is no longer an advisor at Cayuga BOCES but is willing to continue on as Area 2 treasurer.  Ross is going to research to see if there is anything in our bylaws that would prevent him for holding the position if his professional dues were paid.

Ross covered several topics including:

Fall Leadership- Make sure you and your students fill out the statesman before arriving in Syracuse.  Go over the Code of Conduct and dress code with your students, i.e. No SMOKING.  It is all outlined in the Memos from Kathie Collins.  Please encourage your students to be professional.  Don’t be afraid to speak to students that are not yours.   Make sure at least one advisor from each school is attending.  Fall leadership will continue to be a 3 day conference next year.

Area 2 minutes from Fall Leadership meeting 11-2-09 (12/1/09)

Ross opened the meeting by giving us a gift!

Delhi Competition will be February 25, 2010.

Ross has spoken with Denise McLean at Delhi and gave us an update.  Denise will get caps on contests to Ross he will have them forwarded.  Ross will send the new Technical standards to Denise for Delhi chairs.  December 4th will be the deadline for the Change forms for contests (Form 9) from the Chair people.  Ross stressed to Denise that we need to have instructors running and monitoring the contests.  We don’t want Delhi Students running the contests.  Chair people need to look at the score sheets and make sure everyone is on the same page.  Ross handed out a info sheet from Denise with meal prices.  Please contact Denise if you are planning to have breakfast or dinner at Delhi College.

Craig Mann is going to be the Construction cluster chair.

A discussion was held on when contests will be cancelled.  Jan 12 will be the deadline for cancelling a contest.  Payment needs to be made at the Jan 12 meeting.

The T-shirt order is due on Jan. 12 with the Payment for Delhi.  Some leads on possibilities that can do t-shirts Herkimer and NCOC BOCES.

Daryl is in charge of Trophies, please get leftover trophies to him to be refaced.

In the case of bad weather it is possible that both our trustees may not be able to make it to Delhi, Ross and Ron are both from Oswego.  We will all have to pitch in and make sure the awards go off in this situation.

Delhi is under construction!  We, still, will only be able to take one student to participate in Baking and Culinary arts.

The closing ceremony will be held in the Clark Field House.  Headquarters will be in Alumni Hall.  Motorcycle Repair will be a new contest this year.

Make sure you are going over the code of conduct with your students before you come.  Help each other monitor students.  Don’t be afraid to say something to other Skills members, i.e. No Smoking.

We have no one to run the House of Delegates, Jeannie can you do it with the Leadership contests?

State officer applications for Area 2 VP have to be to Ross by Feb 5, 2010.  Screening will be Feb 6, with the other state officers.

Respectfully submitted
Nanette LaTourette
